This was me in The Dress and The Red Shoes at my work awards function tonight. I got many compliments.
Thanks to all who played wardrobe consultant over my previous posts. My little black wrap looked great (but really, the dress is better unadorned), I had a read leather studded bracelet on, and the black clutch is on the table next to me. The photo was taken by the coworker who gave me the red shoes a number of months ago when she decided after a couple of wearings that she couldn't wear them any more. They make the outfit. If I'd been able to locate my red nail polish, I would have done my nails to match.
I'm now heading to bed after two full days of all-day meetings, and evening functions. Good night!

Remember this dress I'm going to wear to one of my evening work functions over the next two nights? (Thanks to all y'all for your input.)
It's a fine red and black stripe. For evening, I have a waist length, black elegant little sweater/wrap. I have red shoes to wear with it. But I had no red handbag. So I dashed out this morning before yoga class to the nearby discount store to get one cheap. They only had one the right red, that was't huge. But it's not a small evening bag like I wanted. Here it is with the shoes (and with Macaroon passing judgement). I need a girly-girl opinion -- is it suitable to carry to an evening function? It seems too large to me. IG? BA? Anyone?
Note: there is no opportunity of going elsewhere to find another. It's this or it's a black clutch I already have, and if I have to go with black heels instead for the match, I will. I'm in a conference all day tomorrow and Monday, with no free time. My weekend is thus abbreviated, and I have too much else to do today to go out shopping some more.
BTW, it wasn't even as cheap as I was hoping. It was $35 (originally $70).
EDITED TO ADD: Here's another purse choice. Until I just took it out now, I thought maybe the red didn't match, but it does. I've added a part of the dress into the photo so you can see them together.
I bought this dress online back in November. Haven't worn it yet, since it's not a winter dress.
I have two work functions this weekend, one is my boss's anniversary dinner at a trendy restaurant and the other is an awards night put on by our organization. Neither are formal, and the dress code for the awards has always been "casual chic". The restaurant has been described by the owners as "farmhouse chic".
Think I could wear this dress to either event, or is it more of a day dress? (These are photos off the site, not of me in the dress. Also, I'd wear it with red shoes.)
What do you love most about your job?
Today, it's the food. A big basket of gourmet cookies landed in the communal kitchen today for the staff from our board of directors, as did another ginormous cellophane-wrapped basket of all kinds of other gourmet treats from the lawyer we do most of our business with. Our office runs on its stomachs, so this makes us very happy.
Signs I am finally feeling better today:
- my appetite is back and I felt motivated to actually make something for dinner (my prior real-meal count since Saturday was a grand total of two -- all else was quick nibbles)
- my concentration is back and I was able to finish a report for work from home today that I couldn't even bear to look at two days ago
- I had enough attention span to read the paper
I still napped for two hours this afternoon, but I know I'll be going back to work tomorrow.
I have this problem in my office (my actual office where my desk is, not my workplace in general). I hate filing. I pile stuff up in my outbox for filing and it gets to towering proportions. Every couple of months or so, I have to tackle it, and I often have to take it to the big boardroom table in order to sort it, because there's so much of it. Then I have an empty outbox and I vow to put items away as I'm finished with them. Yeah, right. Lather, rinse, repeat.
But I've now kicked the non-filing habit! Kind of inadvertently, to be honest. Last time I was catch-up filing, I had the outbox across the room, on top of one of the filing cabinets. Didn't quite finish the job, because something came up (as it always does) so I left it there. Then I realized what a good idea that was and am leaving it there on purpose now. By the time I get up and walk over to put something in the to-file box, I may as well open the drawer and put it in in the file folder instead. No pile-up.
And while on the topic of mental judo -- keeping my mind off the answer to this QotD (that popped a few days ago) long enough to get any work done at all this week, has been quite a feat:
QotD: If you could dream about anything tonight, what would it be?
No hints. Tell ya later.
I'm doing second interviews tomorrow for two women who are up for a position in my department (and me with no HR training at all).
I haven't got a good list of second interview questions, and I've already done the basics (why are you leaving your current job? what interests you about working here?)
Anybody got some suggestions of some good interview questions you've used, or had to answer?
I'm at work today, not sniffling too much, but still really worn out (if co-workers catch me in the hall to talk, I'm going to start drifting to the nearest place to sit down if they chat more than a few seconds). I'm not vouching for the speed of any work, but I can get some done today. The worst is the odd time I have to cough. Then it is TEH OWCH! My stomach muscles are all very sore from prior coughing, and my back still aches as it's been doing non-stop for five days now. Anybody got a remedy for that? The Advil and Tylenol (not together) haven't really done the job. It's not just a muscular ache, but it hurts just to lean back, or pull a shirt across the skin.
Cat update - remember Honey the ever-so-sweet and pregnant trapped cat I had for a few days? I saw her the other day at the clinic where she's being fostered. She's even rounder, still waiting to have those kittens, and she ran right out to see me when she heard me and we had some lovely pats and rubs and she let me put my hands on her belly. Then when I was leaving, she wanted to walk out with me. Man, if I had room for another cat of my own, she'd be the one. But it means she'll probably take no time to be adopted herself once her kittens are born and weaned.
